Omaha Bridal Show | Jan. 15 | dSy invitations

One of my favorite things to do each year is to be in front of 100’s of bride and grooms-t0-be at wedding shows.  I think my ultimate favorite part is hearing about each couple’s style.  Most couples are spot-on when it comes to the latest looks and trends.  And then you have a few that want to be different, and they always intrigue me!

So Omaha, Nebraska and Lincoln, Nebraska brides…come see me at the Scripps Media Omaha Bridal Show presented by Enchanted Travel on January 15 at the CenturyLink Omaha.  And right now, register and get $2 off admission!  Make sure to tell them I sent you (if you can…or just come see me).

Relationships and Big Dreams | My time at Creative at Heart

My goal for 2016: invest in myself and go to a conference that will help me grow.  How I stumbled upon Creative at Heart, I don’t recall.  Probably an Instagram post that lead me to another post that lead me to another post and boom: I found the conference I needed to go to.  I was a bit bummed when their conference in Denver was only a few months after my son was born, but I wasn’t going to miss their last one of the year, so I signed up for the Memphis conference in November.  I mean, Memphis. Why not?

My expectations: I didn’t have any.  I just wanted to soak everything in.  And as I sit here and reflect, one month later, I still get goosebumps.  Never have I met so many like-minded women in the same room as myself.

I’ve always had a hard time explaining what I do:

Oh, you design invitations?  Like for a baby shower?  (Yes, but it’s more than that.)

I bet it’s nice to work at home and spend time with your kids.  (Well, my three kids go to school & daycare so I can work.  Have you ever tried to work with kids around?  I have.)

I bet it’s nice to work for yourself. (Yes, it is.  Except when I didn’t get a maternity leave.  And when I’m the only one who works on every aspect of a project.  And that business development/accounting/HR/marketing/social media….that’s all me too.)

But these ladies got it.  They got it so much when I would talk about my goals, my dreams, my frustrations…heads nodded.  Words of encouragement and relation came from their mouths.  I wasn’t quite expecting such a connection.

The Peabody Hotel was a great backdrop to this amazing gathering of people.  (Yes, I saw the ducks. They were fantastic.) The speakers, top notch.  A few I have to point out:

Jen Olmstead with Tonic Site Shop – I loved listening to Jen speak and she was one of my panel leaders and I felt we coulda chatted about marketing, branding, etc all day.  She was the second speaker and after her, I knew I was at the right place to get my business to the next level. My takeaway from Jen: Build your brand and your ideal client will come.  Connect through content.

Krista & Davey Jones – Loved these two.  And they really help me put SEO perspectives into place.  I kinda knew what I was doing, but now I know more of the why behind it.  Plus more.   My takeaway: doing the little things on my website and blog that can make a big difference on the web.

Mary & Justin – My roommate in Memphis said she saw Mary Marantz in the lobby.  She was awestruck.  I didn’t have the heart to tell her I didn’t know who she was talking about.  But I get it now.  Mary is now someone I follow and want to learn more from.  Her talk was on pricing.  I have no idea the details of pricing she shared.  But I gained a lot from her talk.  I loved how she showed examples of where they started to where they are now.  I could relate and it gave me confidence to be okay with changes I’ve been considering.   My takeaway from Mary: acting like a CEO and be willing to do the work (it’s suppose to be hard….love the photo below).

Katelyn James – Her and Mary are hand-in-hand in my book as amazing business women who have set the bar high.  I coulda listened to Katelyn talk all day.  She has a great story.  So much I took away from her talk.  Highlights include: sharing more about myself; live in freedom, not fear; make small changes first.

And I gotta give big props to Kat Schmoyer on her vision of this conference and bringing so many people who can benefit from each other together.  I understand the work it takes to put something like this together.  And three of them in a year….for real.  You deserve a vacation.

I got an email from two of my friend after my conference.  They asked how it was.  My answer: Life changing.  They thought I was joking. I wasn’t.  It was. Yes, a conference.  And I can’t wait to make some big strides in myself and my business because of it.

Kim + Dan | Pensacola Beach, Florida | dSy invitations wedding

It seems like forever ago when I met Kim to discuss her destination wedding.  It was cold and we were talking about a destination wedding in Florida.  I’m not sure if I was more excited to design these based off her amazing style or the fact that a Florida wedding sounded FANTASTIC as we talked on that cold November, Nebraska day.

Kim wanted something that showed their Florida wedding without screaming WE’RE GETTING MARRIED BY A BEACH with sand and seashells (but we did fit a little starfish in there).  I knew exactly where I wanted to take these.  We created these fantastic wedding invitations with a watercolor water look splashed throughout.  This watercolor look was brought into the ceremony program as well in the custom “guest book” map we created.  Kim and Dan love to travel.  So we designed a map for their guests to sign and they can frame afterwards.  Super cute and it turned out perfect.

Congrats to this great couple!  Thanks to Alena Bakutis Photography for the great photos of their wedding.  Here is just a sneak peak of their gorgeous wedding day.

Sarah + Nick | Omaha, Nebraska | dSy invitations wedding

Everything I designed for Sarah just fell into place.  And maybe how we first met was a good indication of that.  I was in Omaha (from Cedar Rapids at the time) meeting with a few other couples, and she called and wanted to schedule a consultation.  I called her back after my first consultation and asked if she had time that morning to meet.  Which she did. That was easy, right?

And the fact that I loved their wedding style made everything else easy as well.  With a bright royal blue as the main color of their wedding, I knew I was in for something great.  I haven’t used this color much (but since that time, I have a few different times).  We brought in the tones of her wedding floral (random blues, pinks, peaches and whites) onto the invitation and what we came up with was nothing less than gorgeous.

We designed a simple standard package invitation (minus RSVP) with a royal blue envelope.  We printed right on these envelopes to help make those addresses pop.  We also designed a ceremony program and seating chart which was at their reception.

From the look of her wedding photos, this is the wedding I had in mind when she described to it me.  I hope it was her dream wedding as well.  Congrats Sarah & Nick!

Your Wedding Iowa Bridal Forum

I was so happy to be back in Des Moines for the Your Wedding Iowa Bridal Forum on Sunday.  I love meeting with couples, hearing their wedding style, wedding date and setting up times to chat even more in-depth about what we can design for their wedding invitations.

As always, here are a few things that stood out to me yesterday from these Iowa couples:

  • Big Weddings!  I had a handful of brides asking for pricing for over 250 invitations (yes, invitations!).
  • Navy and gold.  Trends are on point in Des Moines.
  • 2017 brides were out in full force.  And a 2018 bride…the ultimate planner!

My booth space looked fabulous once again thanks to my fantastic husband who braved super cold temps to haul everything into the West Des Moines Sheraton and set up my booth even before the family was out of bed Sunday morning.  This is the first time since moving back to Omaha that I did an Iowa show, so my family were troopers to pack up and spend the weekend in a hotel room and find something to do on a Sunday afternoon (great day for a movie!)

If I had the pleasure to chat with you yesterday, let’s follow up with a free invitation consultation!  I’d love to hear more about your wedding style and how we can make that come to life through your wedding invites.  Summer 2016 couples…contact me NOW!  I’m getting limited on time and bookings.

IMG_7492On the road!  It was probably the coldest weekend of the year, but we loaded up and headed East.

IMG_7497My fantastic crew!  They packed up, loaded up, unloaded, set up and hauled it back home for me.  And got to see The Good Dinosaur somewhere in that time too.

IMG_7499My booth looked great once again.  Thanks to Bella Flora for the awesome flowers!

Ellen + Mitch | Des Moines, Iowa | dSy invitations wedding

I love looking back at the notes I take during invitation consultations and then comparing them to the photos of a couple’s wedding day.  For Ellen and Mitch’s Des Moines, Iowa wedding, everything was exactly how she described it to me.  Classic, timeless, elegant, traditional….we came up with an invitation that matched her wedding and what they wanted perfectly.

We created a standard package featuring Tiffany blue and white.  The classic element I love about these invites, and tend to show off to other couples, is their monogram.  It’s something simple, classic and we utilized it across the board.  I especially love how we printed the monogram right on the belly band, which was added to the standard package.  We also designed the ceremony programs and menus for wedding day, which coordinated perfectly.

Congrats to this great couple!  Wishing you a lifetime of happiness!

Best of Weddings 2016

I am extremely honored to be selected as The Knot’s Best of Weddings for 2016!

What does this mean?  It means that dSy invitations is the top 5% of vendors listed on The Knot in the invitations category in Nebraska.  And because there are only a select few invitation vendors for Nebraska, it means dSy invitations is the ONLY invitation vendor in the state of Nebraska with the title of “Best of Weddings”.

And to brag a bit more, this is the third year in a row we have been selected for this award.

Vendors can be eligible for Best of Weddings through the reviews they receive on The Knot by couples.  So this isn’t something that was determined by a bunch of people sitting around in a room.  This was determined by the fabulous couples I’ve designed for and have taken time to express their appreciation through their review of my services.

And that’s why I’m proud.

Thanks to all these couples.  I am humbled to put this award on my bookshelf (next to the others) but that fact that it comes from YOU, means so much more.

Let’s rock 2016!

Kate + Dan | Omaha, Nebraska | dSy invitations wedding

I love a couple who knows what they want.  And when I met with Kate before her October 2015 wedding, I knew I ran into one of those couples.  And when she said GOLD GLITTER, I knew we were a great fit to work together.

Kate and Dan’s style was an art deco inspired look, but Kate didn’t want to go over the top.  And I definitely saw where she wanted to go.  Nothing too “gatsby” but kept that 1920’s look in mind within the design.  And gold glitter band…oh ya.  Pair gold glitter with the navy look she was going for with her wedding day…nothing less than classy.

We designed a standard package on off-white paper, complete with the invitation, guest information card and RSVP postcard.  And of course, that gold glitter belly band.  We also designed their Save the Date postcards and ceremony programs to complete the wedding invitation suite.

I gotta thank this couple for allowing me to make the look of their wedding day come to life through their custom invitations.  Best wishes to this amazing couple!
