I love making my way down I-80 to Lincoln, Nebraska to meet with brides. A warm, summer morning brought me to meet Anna. I knew the designs we would create would be special. She had ideas. She had a passion. She was in love with her soon-to-be groom, Seth.
Anna chose one of my favorite photographers, Wyn Wiley for her wedding day, and like he does so well, their engagement photos were magnificent. Thus, beautiful Save the Dates were born.
For Anna and Seth’s wedding invitations, she loved the oh-so-popular gold foiling, which at the time I was just diving into creating. Each piece of her invitation suite was accompanied with gold foil, paired with a light gray envelope and gold envelope liner. We created a wedding monogram for their invitation wrap and mixed metal perfection fell into place.
But it wasn’t the Save the Dates, wedding invitations, place cards, menus or custom signs that will make me remember this could. It was this little gift:
You see, when Anna and Seth were to get their invites in the mail, it was the same time I was bringing in my new little one into the world. I’m sure my emails were filled with “don’t worry” and “we’ll get this done”. And Anna was on board — and everything was in their hands before my little guy was placed into mine.
Gifts are fun to receive, but they’re just things. But the thought behind this one meant more than I could have imagined. Most brides I meet with want a family some day. Most aren’t thinking about that for a while. Anna placed herself in my shoes and the thoughtfulness she showed….unforgettable.
My hope is their wedding day was the same.
