When I got an email from Amber about her wedding at the Kimpton Cottonwood Hotel in the Blackstone District in Omaha, I was excited. Omaha's newest venue was on trend for looks as well as their boutique style. But the Cottonwood wasn't the only thing that jumped out at me.

It was more the fact that her wedding was literally in 5 weeks. And in custom stationery world, that's a hard pass. There just isn't enough time to create, design and produce custom invitations to get them out to guests. In reality, invitations should go out 8 weeks before the wedding, so we were already behind.

"Normal" 2020 wedding

Instead of just writing Amber & Tyler off and telling them good luck, I needed to know more. And that's when I fell in love with this couple and their story. 2020...remember that year? Postponements and cancellations....a wedding planner's nightmare. Amber and Tyler were right in that mix. Their destination wedding in Mexico was postponed from Spring to Fall. And as things weren't getting better in the Covid world, the Mexico thing was just not going to happen.

So they set sights to a wedding in Omaha. The Cottonwood looked like the perfect place. But the Cottonwood was under construction with opening dates being pushed back and pushed back and pushed back. As they set their November 29th date, they were also told to pick a backup date for December just in case the hotel wasn't open.

How do you put that on a wedding invitation?

Regardless, I was in. I wanted to help this couple create invitations for the beginning of their lives together. I told Amber a pre-designed invitation is the way we had to go to make things go a bit faster. And she loved an invitation I designed for a styled shoot a few years back and that's where we started.

We got details in place (including the "backup" date) and these invitations with the vellum jacket + gray wax seal turned out better than I could have imagined. Style-shoot worth, in my opinion.

We created some amazing menus/place cards for wedding reception as well. The guest names were printed on strips of vellum and wax sealed to the top of the menu.
